Introducing The Perpetual Visitor on Substack!

Happy Almost End of August, Friends! As we turn the calendar to September in just a couple of days, I wanted to check into this space and let you know that I'm on Substack now, and you can now subscribe to receive a free weekly newsletter delivered straight to your inbox, news feed scrolling not required!

For many years, I have hosted this blog offering tips and tools to strengthen our creativity practices, thoughts on how to make a living and create a life, and other random musings on the experience of being a creative soul in a productivity obsessed society, and please know that I will continue to post writing, news, and the like in this space.

In addition, I am giving myself permission to experiment with creating a Substack weekly newsletter that you can learn more about and subscribe to over here. I’d like to continue reflecting on creativity practices both here and on Substack, AND expand my palette as a writer, so you can also expect posts exploring whatever may be on my mind at the present moment and how I’m processing this wild, wonderful life I’m making. I’ll also keep you updated about upcoming projects, publications, online events, and the like over in the Substack space. Whether they be scraps of poetry, journaling prompts, or recent inspirations from some of my favorite creatives, my hope is that what I share in this new little corner of the digital world finds a home in your own creative hearts.

Will I still post on this website? Yes! I will still post writing here at The Perpetual Visitor, I'm simply adding Substack as a newsletter option and additional platform for those who prefer engaging in that way. It's an exciting new experiment for me!

Why Subscribe over at Substack? When you subscribe to my Substack, you will get a weekly newsletter, as well as regular posts in this space aimed to help you reflect on your own creative practice, and how deeply appreciating stories can offer us powerful tools to process the wild, wonderful, and sometimes weird experience of being human.

I know from personal experience that multiple platforms can be a little overwhelming, so feel free to continue to engage in the one that makes the most sense for you.

For now, I’ll be posting all Substack content for free, and in the coming weeks, will implement a paid tier for subscribers. I’ve never charged for my writing online before, and though the Inner Imposter starts to get loud with criticism when I consider a crowdfunded platform, my value of sustainability has been slowly but surely encouraging me to find ways to create and cultivate care for myself at the same time. A paid subscription model will be an experiment in dedicating myself more deeply to this kind of sustainability, hopefully allowing me to make and rest in a way that feels nourishing for both me and you. I’ll keep you posted as this experiment unfurls!

Know someone who would like to join us in this new creative corner of Substack? Feel free to send them the link to subscribe!

My name is Melissa and I'm an actor, playwright, author, filmmaker, and teaching artist who wants to help you discover, cultivate, and care for your creativity.

What does being creative mean to you?

How do you play every day?

This is a space for taking a break, a breath,  and finding ways to flex our imagination and find the joy where we can.

No one is going to present us with a ready made creative life--we have  to step up and gift it to ourselves. I'm so glad you're here.
