Wangari Maathai is the late environmental and women's rights activist from Kenya who spent her life advocating for change. She was the first African woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004, and as the founder of the Green Belt Movement, inspired men and women across Kenya to plant millions of trees and build a grassroots movement literally from the ground up.
Wangari Maathai tells the story of the hummingbird, a short inspirational tale that encourages each one of us to do the best we can with what we have, however small a contribution we may feel it is. It's easy to diminish the work that we each do, quietly but consistently, and the story of the hummingbird is a good pick me up when the going gets rough.
The clip is from Dirt! The Movie and is truly one of the best things I've ever seen. Short, sweet, and thought provoking, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Be the hummingbird!
