Tiny Tips For Creativity #6: EAT!

In the past, I've had a bad habit where I worked straight through many lunches and dinners, and skipped breakfasts if I have had a full day of day jobbing, rehearsing, writing, or the like. And guess what? It's not fun. In fact, I end up feeling pretty awful. My focus is non-existent, I can't keep my mind off of the food I want and need to be eating to fuel me, and let's not even talk about how "hangry" I get. Don't think that's a real thing? Spend a day with me when I haven't had a regular lunch. The "hanger" is REAL.

We need to be healthy if we want to create. Here's a question for you. When is the last time you remember being really hungry and thought "You know what I really feel like doing right now? Performing! Writing a book! Knitting! Teaching a dance class!"

Never? Yeah, me either.

Take if from the women of Hamilton and take a break. Even a twenty minute respite that involves some food will leave you feeling not only full, but focused, and less frazzled. And quick and easy doesn't need to mean that you are sacrificing health either. Here are two of my favorite recipes these days that have helped me feel human and nourished but not like I'm taking too much time away from my day job or creative projects. Forgive my lack of measurements in the salad recipe, I usually just toss this together with the amounts I feel I can eat when I make it.

Wishing you a weekend full of love, imagination, and all the things you need to be a healthy YOU!

Tropical Green Smoothie

1/2 avocado
3/4 cup of frozen pineapple
a large handful of spinach (or kale)
1 small knob of ginger (about 1 inch) cut into small pieces
1 TBPS lemon juice
a spoonful coconut oil
one cup of coconut milk (or any kind of dairy you like!)
1 ice cube
Optional: 1 scoop of collagen/protein powder

Blend together on a high setting, and add more coconut water, ice, or milk as needed for your preferred consistency. The fast and easy breakfast of choice for me these days!

Greek Salad

Romaine lettuce, chopped
Red onion, thinly sliced
Kalamata olives
Cucumbers, diced
Artichoke hearts, quartered
Protein of choice (shrimp, tofu, chicken, etc.)

Toss with the dressing of your choice and voila! Healthy and totable lunch (or dinner) to keep your "hanger" at bay. Personally, I love the paleo tzatziki sauce recipe here: http://stupideasypaleo.com/2013/06/15/paleo-tzatziki-sauce/

I was really stressed by Acid reflux issues with my newborn and had consulted Chief Dr Lucky. He gave us a thorough consultation and the medicines were equally effective. In a couple of weeks there was big improvement in my son and we are very pleased with the progress. We cannot thank Chief Dr Lucky enough. Highly recommended.

What does being creative mean to you?

How do you play every day?

This is a space for taking a break, a breath,  and finding ways to flex our imagination and find the joy where we can.

No one is going to present us with a ready made creative life--we have  to step up and gift it to ourselves. I'm so glad you're here.
